I Should Have Known Better! What Was I Thinking?

I went to my local H-D dealer today to buy some highway pegs.  My thinking was $40 or $50 should just about do it.

What was I thinking? I should have known I couldn’t just buy the pegs. I need the brackets to hold them also. When am I going to learn that anything I buy from the Harley-Davidson dealer is going to cost me 3 or 4 times what I think it’ll be. There’s a reason some call it the “Hundred-Doller Shop!”  At least I’ll get some good use out of them over the years.

Note to self: Remove these highway pegs and brackets when the time comes to sell the motorcycle and transfer them to the next bike!

  1. Yeah, we once had to buy a headlight bulb at the HD dealership for the Volusia (it was a Sunday) and I couldn’t believe how much they charged for it! Did you have pegs before?

  2. With the thousands of miles I’ve ridden, I’ve never had the highway pegs. I thought it was about time I got some. Now I can extend my legs out on those long trips and make the ride a little more enjoyable.

  3. Yeah, love/hate relationship with my dealer too. If there was a shop around here other than the dealer who I trusted to “get it right” …. well guess what?

There isn’t. Been there with the wrong parts ordered and purchased, the waiting, the stupid stuff that annoys the hell out of me. So I pay the dealer prices. Oh…my bike is 18 years old. No dealer EXCEPT the one I’m currently working with (SMITH BROTHERS HD) will even touch it. Pisses me off. OH well… now I’ve said my piece, I’ll leave the rest of the blog back to you!
