IMG_3246This may not be my typical motorcycle blog entry, however I did ride my motorcycle to see this!

I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to view the Solarimpulse aircraft at the Phoenix International Airport yesterday.

The Solarimpulse is attempting to fly across the USA using solar power only.  This is the 1st leg of the journey that began in San Francisco.  It arrived early Saturday morning on May 4th, 2013.  Next stop will be Texas.  It’s a lot bigger than I first imagined it would be.  The wingspan is a wide as an airliner.  It’s so wide I wasn’t able to get a photo of the entire aircraft inside this temporary hanger they had set up.

My photos don’t do this amazing aircraft justice.   Click on the link below to see the official website.

The Phoenix International Airport “Sky Train Bridge” is under construction.  This bridge crosses an aircraft taxiway and is 100 feet high. When completed, passengers on the train will be able to see aircraft taxiing below them. This will be the first transportation system in the USA that crosses over an active taxiway.

This is on display outside the Commemorative Air Force Aircraft Museum in Mesa, Arizona.  Again, I didn’t sneak a part of my motorcycle into the phot. What’s wrong with me?  After all, this is a Motorcycle Blog.

Douglas A-26 Invader Aircraft (Miss Murphy 202)

Posted in Aircraft, Arizona, Military on April 17, 2011 by DRF

Description from Wikipedia:  The A-26 Invader (B-26 between 1948–1965) was a twin-engined light attack bomber, built by the Douglas Aircraft Co. during World War II, that also saw service during several of the Cold War’s major conflicts.

I saw this on my ride home and had to stop and take a couple photos. Can you believe I didn’t sneak a part of my motorcycle in one of the pics?

This Douglas A-26 Invader was parked on the ramp behind the Commemorative Air Force Aircraft Museum in Mesa, Arizona.

Vintage Aircraft – U.S. Navy

This photo was taken looking through the fence at Falcon Field municipal airport, in Mesa, AZ.  It looks like this old U.S. Navy aircraft is undergoing some type of maintenance or repair.  I’m not quite sure of the model, maybe a DC-3?
