Tortilla Flat, Arizona

A nice day for another Motorcycle Ride.  This time to Tortilla Flat in Arizona.

Here’s a quote from their website:

Tortilla Flat is an authentic remnant of an old west town, nestled in the midst of the Tonto National Forest, in the Superstition Mountain RangeTortilla Flat started out as a stagecoach stop in 1904 and neither fire nor flood has been able to take away this historic stop along the Historic Apache Trail.”

The road from the West, State Road 88 is paved but VERY ROUGH and has a lot of curves and switch backs for about 20 miles.  It wasn’t a very enjoyable on my motorcycle.  The curves and switch backs would have been enjoyable if it wasn’t so rough.  This road needs some serious work.  The road leading out of town to the East towards Roosevelt Lake, is unpaved and I would Not recommend taking on a large motorcycle on it.

If you like Jalapeno and Chili, I recommend the Jalapeno Chili at the Superstition Saloon.  Very good (and hot!).

Canyon Lake – Tonto National Forest, AZ

Canyon Lake – Location: Less than an hour East of Phoenix, AZ in the Tonto National Forest.

Here’s a few photos I took on my ride over to Canyon Lake.  A nice day in Arizona for a motorcycle ride.  To get to this lake, you have to ride over 2, one-land bridges.  They have quite a few camping spaces available for campers.  There’s also a lot of boats at the marina.  I’m not sure why, but I didn’t take any photos of the camping sites or the marina where they had quite a few boats.  There was a restaurant and a Steam Boat were you can take a ride around the lake.

Goldfield Ghost Town.  Location: 4650 N Mammoth Mine Rd, Apache Junction, AZ 85119.

Located East of Phoenix, AZ.  A nice relaxing place to walk around and take in the sights of the old Ghost Town.  After my walk around town, I sat on the patio with a nice cold drink and enjoyed a fantastic view of the Superstition Mountains.  I’ve been here several times and will definitely go back.

Saguaro Lake – Arizona (w/ a Helicopter Sighting!)

Another ride to another lake.  This time to Saguaro Lake, NE of Phoenix, AZ.  While I was there a police helicopter made an approach and departure from the helipad.  I’m guessing he was practicing his approach and departure maneuvers.  He only stayed on the ground for a few seconds.  I didn’t get many photos this trip, but here’s a few.

I took a ride over to the Superstition Mountain Museum.  They’re located to the east of Phoenix, AZ in the east valley, close to Apache Junction.  A nice place with a great view of the Superstition Mountains.

I won’t go into detail about this place, if you’re interested, just click on the link in the fist paragraph to see their website.

Here’s a few photos:

A Horse, Car & Motorcycle in Arizona

Here in Arizona it’s not unusual to see a Horse, Car and Motorcycle in the same parking lot.

This was the first time I’ve stopped at  The Hitching Post  Pizza Pub in Apache Junction, AZ  (Near the Superstition Mountains).  A nice place with plenty of seating inside and outside on the raised deck patio.   It seemed to be a popular place.  You can’t tell by this photo, but there were more motorcycles in the parking lot than cars on this Saturday afternoon.  I’m sure I’ll be back.
