old and new h-dHere’s a photo taken at the Harley Davidson dealer showing my 2010 Ultra Classic (left) that I traded in for a new 2014 Tri-Glide (right).  I’ll be putting on some accessories that I was able to remove from the Ultra (highway pegs, derby cover, gas cap cover etc…).  Also a few new items like a chrome bumper, windshield pouch, fender protectors, alarm, accessory outlet, body scuff protector and more.  My first ride out of town will be over to the San Diego area soon. When I get back I’ll be ready for the first required service at 1,000 miles.

Here I am ready to take my first ride on the new bike.

More to come as I start my new adventures on 3 wheels!

Run Out Of Gas? Not Me!

photo2Another addition for the motorcycle.  A REDA Gas Can (holds about 1 gallon).

On more than one occasion on my longer motorcycle rides, I’ve come close to running out of gas.  Due to trying to stretch it out to the next town, or by just not paying attention as much as I should have.  I’ve never ran out, but it was too close for comfort.  I discovered these REDA Gas Cans a while back and decided to purchase one.  It does take up valuable space in the saddle bag, but it may just be the best purchase I’ve ever made for the motorcycle if I ever do run out of gas.  For peace of mind if nothing else.

100 Degrees and A Nice Sunny Afternoon in Arizona

photocA nice day here in Arizona.   It’s still monsoon season and todays high 100 degrees with a lot of humidity to go along with it.

I stopped on the way home from work to take this photo (with my cell phone).  No particular reason, I just thought with the nice blue sky and clouds it would make for a colorful photo.

20,000 Mile Service for the Ultra-Classic

I took my bike in today for its 20,000 miles service.  Instead of taking it to my local H-D dealer, I’ve decided to try a local shop that has been highly recommended to me by several of my co-workers.  It took about 3 hours which seemed reasonable to me with all the service work that needed be be checked this time.  They discovered several of the bolts around the oil cover/pan were slightly loose.  Apparently there were some design changes on this motor for 2011 and they’ve seen this problem before.  I’m not very happy about this.  Come on H-D!  I really like your new bikes, but not at the expense of having to deal with an oil leak with something this new!  I’ll wait and see how the next 5-10 thousand miles go before I call H-D and voice my concern.  I can only hope this is a one time occurrence for me.

On a positive note, the bike is finished and the weather here in AZ is still just right for riding.

The owner of the shop said the service technician told him after seeing the year and milage, that this is a motorcycle that actually gets ridden!  I considered this a complement!  I do like to ride…

New Motorcycle Tires – Dunlop American Elite

Posted in FLHTC, Harley-Davidson, Harley-Davidson Dealers, Motorcycle, Motorcycle Accessories, Motorcycles with tags , , , on October 12, 2012 by DRF

As you can see from the photo (original tire that came on the bike), it’s time for a new rear tire.  The front still has a little life in it, but I’ll replace it also so I’ll have a matching set. I did quite a bit of research on the internet and I’ve decided to go with the “Dunlop American Elite Motorcycle Tires”.  From the reviews I could find, this seems to be an excellent tire that will give me a lot of miles.  I don’t get any money, credit, etc. for my endorsement of this product or anything else I mention on this blog,  I just like to share product information with the products I use.  Maybe others can compare the things I use with items they may be considering.  I made my tire purchases from JakeWilson.  They’re a reputable  company and had best price I could find.  Here’s a link I found on YouTube that I found informative in making my decision. I’m a Harley-Davidson owner and I do buy items from my local H-D dealer.  But when it comes to Tires and Batteries, I go elsewhere.  They charge too much.  I realize their prices are always high, but they seem to be ridiculously high when it comes to these two items.  My latest battery purchase was from at a great price and fast shipping.

Here’s the tires I’ll have installed soon.

I can’t wait to try these new tires, I haven’t ridden in 2 weeks due to concerns about my rear tire. I never should have let it go so long. My only excuse was I was on a 10 day trip and didn’t want to spend a few hours at a dealer along the way to get it changed. It probably wasn’t the best decision I’ve ever made.

Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Tank Logo

Walking around with my camera this morning trying to figure out what to take a photo of.  So I took a photo of the gas tank logo.  Put it into Photoshop and came up with these variations.  First photo is the original, and then 3 more edited with Photoshop Elements.  Now it’s time to get on the bike and take a ride!
