Another Patch for the Vest

Another patch added to my vest.  I’m almost out of room.  Over the years I’ve added, removed and replaced various patches, keeping the ones that mean the most to me.

Anyone else have a motorcycle vest that they’re proud of?  I’ve spent quite a few years adding to mine.  Maybe in another post I’ll show the different patches on the front & rear and their significance to me.  Each patch brings back memories.  Kind of like going back through my motorcycle journal that I’ve keep over the years on my trips.  Lots of good memories.

The Phoenix area Harley-Davidson dealers have put together the 1st Annual PhoenixBike Fest this year next to the Wildhorse Pass Hotel & Casino. Here’s a few photos I took today (April 5, 2014). SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThis is the bike I was able to ride, a blue Tri-Glide.   After watching a short video, I got to ride it for about 10-15 minutes.  It definitely rides different than a 2 wheel motorcycle.  I like it. Lifetime Member – Harley Owners Group H.O.G.

I renewed my Harley Owners Group membership this month and decided to convert it to a Life Membership.  It seemed like every couple of years the annual fee as well as the conversion fee for the life membership went up in price.  I probably should have done this several years ago and saved a few dollars.  Now I have another patch to sew on my vest!

While in York, PA last weekend, I took a look at Laugerman’s Memory Collection.  It’s located at Laugerman’s Harley-Davidson dealership in York, PA. They have quite a collection of antiques. They even have a Harley-Davidson bicycle. The label on the box says H-d only made 1,000 of these.

Harley-Davidson Vehicle Operations Plant. York, PA

I was in Pennsylvania last weekend and was able to visit to Harley-Davidson’s Vehicle Operations Plant.  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get to the plant before the last tour on Friday, and no tours on the weekend, so I had to miss it this trip. The last time I was in PA I took the tour which began with a short movie before continuing on to the factory floor . It was an interesting walking tour where they allowed visitors to walk around on a guided tour following the assembly line and watch Harley-Davidson motorcycles being assembled.  The few photos I was able to take are inside near the gift shop and of course the H-D signs.

Quote From the Harley-Davidson website:

Established as an assembly facility in 1973, Harley-Davidson Vehicle Operations in York, PA. assembles the Touring, Softail and Trike models, as well as limited production, factory-custom motorcycles. They perform a variety of manufacturing operations – making parts like fuel tanks, frames and fenders.

At the Vaughn L. Beals Tour Center, you’ll explore exhibits that detail the plant’s history, and guide you through the manufacturing and assembly processes. You’ll also have the chance to sit on current production motorcycles and visit the gift shop for tour-related souvenirs. The Kids’ Rally, a specially designed area for visitors under the age of 12, makes the York facility an ideal family destination.

Your factory tour begins with an introductory movie and continues on the factory floor where you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the people, processes and products of York Vehicle Operations. You’ll be guided through the assembly of Touring and Trike motorcycles. Then it’s on to the end of the line, where every motorcycle is roll-tested prior to shipping.

Over the years, thousands of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts have made the journey to York, Pennsylvania to witness passion forged in steel.
