Tortilla Flat, Arizona

A nice day for another Motorcycle Ride.  This time to Tortilla Flat in Arizona.

Here’s a quote from their website:

Tortilla Flat is an authentic remnant of an old west town, nestled in the midst of the Tonto National Forest, in the Superstition Mountain RangeTortilla Flat started out as a stagecoach stop in 1904 and neither fire nor flood has been able to take away this historic stop along the Historic Apache Trail.”

The road from the West, State Road 88 is paved but VERY ROUGH and has a lot of curves and switch backs for about 20 miles.  It wasn’t a very enjoyable on my motorcycle.  The curves and switch backs would have been enjoyable if it wasn’t so rough.  This road needs some serious work.  The road leading out of town to the East towards Roosevelt Lake, is unpaved and I would Not recommend taking on a large motorcycle on it.

If you like Jalapeno and Chili, I recommend the Jalapeno Chili at the Superstition Saloon.  Very good (and hot!).

Canyon Lake – Tonto National Forest, AZ

Canyon Lake – Location: Less than an hour East of Phoenix, AZ in the Tonto National Forest.

Here’s a few photos I took on my ride over to Canyon Lake.  A nice day in Arizona for a motorcycle ride.  To get to this lake, you have to ride over 2, one-land bridges.  They have quite a few camping spaces available for campers.  There’s also a lot of boats at the marina.  I’m not sure why, but I didn’t take any photos of the camping sites or the marina where they had quite a few boats.  There was a restaurant and a Steam Boat were you can take a ride around the lake.

Goldfield Ghost Town

Goldfield Ghost Town.  Location: 4650 N Mammoth Mine Rd, Apache Junction, AZ 85119.

Located East of Phoenix, AZ.  A nice relaxing place to walk around and take in the sights of the old Ghost Town.  After my walk around town, I sat on the patio with a nice cold drink and enjoyed a fantastic view of the Superstition Mountains.  I’ve been here several times and will definitely go back.

Tonto National Forest – Lower Salt River

I took a short ride east of Phoenix, Arizona today along the Lower Salt River.  It’s part of the Tonto National Forest.

The time was high noon with the temperature over 100 degrees.  Not the best time to take pictures.  But here’s a few anyway!  The mountain is “Red Mountain”, located on the North side of the river.  Just about every Saguaro cactus I saw had a few flowers blooming.

A beautiful day here in Arizona.  I decided to take a short ride near home.  Here’s a few photos from todays ride.  The mountain to the left is Red Mountain, located just North of Mesa, AZ on the Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation.  When conditions are right, you can get some great photos of this mountain.

Not much traffic out this Tuesday afternoon.  Just how I like it!

I believe the mountains in the background here are the Gold Field Mountains.

And another photo with a little bit of color in it.

And this post wouldn’t be complete without a photo of my motorcycle.  After all, this is a Motorcycle Blog!  This is my favorite setup for the motorcycle with the Tour-Pak removed.  It has the Mustang Solo Seat and a Solo Luggage Rack.

Sturgis 2014 – Planning for Another Ride

I plan on going to Sturgis again this year.  This will be my 2nd time.  Tent camping along the way, I plan on staying at Fort Tuthill campground in Flagstaff, AZ,  Arches National Park in Utah, and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  If I have time I’d also like to ride through Aspen, CO to take in the scenic views.  Each time I take a trip I try to take routes I haven’t been on before (unless I feel it was so nice I’d like to see it again).  I plan on going through Arches National Park which I rode through last year, simply because I enjoyed it so much.  If you plan on camping in any of the national parks, be sure to make your reservations well in advance.  They fill up quickly especially in the summer months.

My trip back to AZ will probably have to be along the Interstate Highways since it will be the quickest.  I would prefer to take the back roads through the little towns, scenic views, more relaxing atmosphere, etc…  But I could only get so much time off from work!
